Pregnancy & Postnatal Care: Your Sacred Journey
Pregnancy is one of the most transformative experiences a woman can have. It’s not just about growing a baby – you’re literally creating life while your own body undergoes incredible changes. This deserves support that honors both the miracle and the challenges.
In my practice, I combine the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda with gentle yoga and modern understanding to support you through every stage of this journey.
Supporting You Through Each Trimester
First Trimester (0-3 months) – Finding Your Ground This is about helping your body adjust to this new reality. Morning sickness, fatigue, and emotional ups and downs are all normal, but they don’t have to be overwhelming.
Yoga focus: We avoid traditional poses and instead focus on breathing techniques and gentle relaxation. Simple practices like alternate nostril breathing (without holding the breath) can help with nausea and anxiety.
Ayurvedic support: Light, easy-to-digest foods, natural remedies for nausea like ginger, and creating a calm environment for both you and your developing baby.
Second Trimester (4-6 months) – Building Strength This is often when women feel their best during pregnancy. We use this time to build strength and deepen the connection with your baby.
Yoga practices: Safe poses that open the hips and strengthen your back:
- Butterfly pose for hip flexibility
- Cat-cow stretches for back comfort
- Standing poses for building strength
- Gentle seated breathing practices
Ayurvedic nourishment: This is the time for building – high-quality proteins, healthy fats like ghee, and foods that support both your energy and your baby’s development. I often recommend herbs like Shatavari for overall reproductive health.
Garbha Sanskara: This traditional practice involves positive influences for your baby – beautiful music, uplifting reading, and practices that create a peaceful environment.
Third Trimester (7-9 months) – Preparing for Birth Now we’re preparing your body and mind for labor and delivery.
Yoga for birth preparation:
- Squatting poses to open the pelvis
- Gentle movements on a yoga ball
- Breathing techniques for labor
- Relaxation practices for anxiety
Ayurvedic preparation: Specific foods and herbs that support an easier delivery, gentle oil massage for the perineum, and practices that help your body prepare for the intensity of labo
The Sacred 40 Days After Birth (Sutika Paricharya)
This postpartum period is crucial for your long-term health. In Ayurveda, we see this as a time when your body needs deep nourishment and rest to prevent future health issues.
Ayurvedic postpartum care:
- Warming, nourishing foods that are easy to digest
- Herbal teas and preparations that support healing and milk production
- Daily oil massage to calm your nervous system and support recovery
- Specific herbs like Dashamoola for overall strength and healing
Gentle postpartum yoga (after 6-8 weeks):
- Poses that help your core and pelvic floor recover
- Breathing practices for emotional balance
- Gentle movements that don’t strain healing tissues
- Relaxation techniques for better sleep (when the baby allows!)
Supporting Your Baby Too
- Traditional oil massage for babies using warm, nourishing oils
- Immune-supporting practices like Swarna Prashana
- Creating a peaceful environment with soft sounds and gentle touch
